Traditional spinal fusion procedures require extensive posterior dissection and retraction of the paraspinal muscles to access the spine which can result in increased postoperative pain, lengthened recovery time, and impaired spinal func-tion.¹ The PercLIF technique attempts to drastically reduce this iatrogenic pain by accessing the spine laterally using a series of sequential blunt dilators through the soft tissue. By preserving the healthy muscle and tissue, this may lead to less post-op pain and a quicker return to normal activity for the patient.
